This book is awesome! It is very comprehensive and covers almost everything a tax professional needs to know in order to deliver a great tax service to his or her client. 1040NR? or 1040? guides the reader in a step-by-step approach to understanding the U.S. income tax return and tax issues facing foreign individuals and people working for international organizations. The sections I like the most are where the author emphasizes the subject matter using case studies and of course the Visa rhyme on page 5. If you memorize this rhyme, you will be able to determine in a split second whether the client needs a 1040 or a 1040NR. This is a great book; I think every tax professional should add it to their collection as a quick reference guide.

A group of preparers in our office spent four weeks in the summer of 2013 studying Jean’s book together. We are in a small town with a large university and we often have clients who are not U.S. citizens. Their tax situations can be quite complex. We now feel more confident in analyzing client situations to determine whether to prepare a 1040, 1040NR, or dual-status return and associated forms.  We feel we are better able to serve this segment of our client base.
